I met a good friend today in Cherry Hill NJ, and had lunch at the Silver Diner near the Cherry Hill Mall. I hadn't been to one in years, and my memory of the restaurant in Reston, VA was "meh". I was pleasantly surprised to see the changes they've made to the menu! They had a section of entrees under 600 calories, a section of gluten free meals (which is why my friend picked the restaurant), and signs about their focus on locally grown foods. The ketchup on the table was organic, the bison in my burger was raised in MD/VA.
Lunch was really good - I had the bison burger with sweet potato fries, she had the shrimp scampi served over brown rice and a small salad. The salad had mixed greens and was very nice looking - she said her scampi was terrific. I'd been craving a burger so my lunch really hit the spot.
The service wasn't terrific - the server didn't return to the table until after I'd finished my meal so I never got a drink refill because we were leaving. However, we were seated quickly and once we decided our food came out pretty quickly. I think this will be our meeting spot for a while!
