There are now 2 places in the RI area that serve authentic Sichuan style food that is on a par with Sichuan Gourmet/Garden.
They are both small family run establishments without much web presence.
Chengdu Taste in Pawtucket only has one of those online ordering websites:
There are about 5 tables here, and they are serving the high population of Chinese students in the area. I've been here twice, and the authentic dishes are top notch. They don't dumb down the ma la for non-Chinese. Both times I've been there, non-Chinese Sichuan food "aficionados" approached me asking if I needed help choosing entrees, and couldn't stop praising the place.
Same goes for the website of Chong Qing House in Seekonk:
This spot is behind some buildings in a tiny strip mall, and has changed hands a few times since I've been in the area.
Great food, and some unusual dishes. Again, they don't hold back if you tell them you are familiar with Sichuan cuisine. There was a super spicy frog dish on the menu that they absolutely refused to make for me, because they were afraid I wouldn't like it. I told them I'd be coming back for that one. I asked about the "mixed meat chaff" on the menu, and was told it was hot pot. I hope this place makes it, because it's off the beaten path.
