Shrimp & Eggs at Gourmet Delight, Oakland Ctown

Late Friday night at Gourmet Delight, while perusing the regular menu, I spotted this homey Cantonese dish which had recently been highlighted on the LA board. Hadn't had this dish in a long time, so husband and I decided to go for it. We also ordered the clams in black bean sauce, a rock cod and bean curd claypot, and chicken & bokchoy stirfry.

The shrimp and eggs were a fine rendition, though a tad more oil than I would use at home. The shrimp were large and tender, while the eggs were fluffy, just slightly underdone, which is how my husband likes his eggs. The clams were also excellent - though the sauce was not as flavorful, but the clams themselves were huge, about the diameter of a golf ball, and tender with no grit. I would not recommend the claypot as the rock cod pieces were mostly bones with little meat on them. The stirfry was also just average. The entire meal (including a to go order of noodles) was just $40, with lots of leftovers.

In addition to the set menus which are good value (there was a Chowdown a couple of months ago featuring one of these), they also have a listing of dishes that you can order for $5.95 each. The claypot and the bokchoy were off that menu, while the others were off the regular menu.
