short report on Oahu, Kauai

Alan Wongs was just sooooooo good!!!
We sat at the counter for the 5 course. It was a busy Saturday night and there were no
giveaways but what we had was just terrific! The short Ribs and Maui
beef. I could go on and on and on. The tomato soup with the foie gras sandwich!!!
We ate at the Pineapple room our last night and it was very good but just a step below.
Roys was also good quality but a hair under AW. Also had great short ribs and smokey ribs.
Chef Mavro's was a big disappointment.Uninspired over priced, small portioned French.
We tried hamburgers all over for lunch and they were probably the worst
experience we've ever had with a burger. There must be a law/rule in Hawaii about cooking them COMPLETELY. No matter how many times we'd ask for rare we would get a gray hockey puck. What's up with that?
We had the shave ice. Why don't we have that in NJ?
I really liked the condensed milk they put on top of mine.
Not much on Kauai
We had the Saimen in Lihue. We sat at the community table with a group of high school kids who entertained us. The broth was very good.
I'd go back to Oahu just for Alan Wongs!
Wanted to try Sam Choy's but ran out of time. I caught him on Iron Chef last week.
Thanks for all you help.
It's great to talk about food and to get info from people who care about what they put in their mouth.
