short Beechwood review

Tried Beechwood last night for the first time. Some thoughts:

*The bar area is lovely and a great place to meet friends after work. Comfortable sofas, plenty of bar seating (though the bar itself is a bit too high; I felt like a little kid sitting there so I switched to a table).

*We split a few things: From the regular menu, we had the grilled asparagus and escarole. From the bar menu, we ordered the braised short ribs and curried skewered shrimp with fried spinach. All these dishes were very good, but so small! There were probably 5 tiny baby aspargus and about 2 teaspoons worth of escarole and 3 very short skewers of tiny rock shrimp with 15 pieces of fried spinach (they pretty much evaporate in your mouth so it's like eating salty air). The braised short ribs was a little bigger, but still quite small. While I realize these are small plates, I didn't expect them to be so tiny.

*For dessert, we split the trio of cupcakes: red velvet, devil's food and sour cream lemon. All very good, moist, perfect dessert size.

The service was excellent, wine choices were also good. For 2 glasses of wine and the above food, with tip and tax, it was $80.00 - a tad much considering we both left hungry.

My take on it is that it's not enough bang for your buck, but I would go there for a pre-dinner drink just to enjoy the atmosphere.
