shopping on brighton

I just wanted to ask if anyone ever tried shopping at Russian food stores on Brighton Beach.
I was there with my friends who are Russian and while they were picking veggies volunteered to get some bread and drinks from the International Store...bread and drinks buying went alright, but then I saw a big line at the back near the deli so I decided to get some yummy Russian food for later -- big lapse in judgement.
I have never felt so frustrated and lost not at bodegas, not in chinatown, not in foreign countries!
I ended up waiting for 30 minutes in line then when I thought it was my turn I got screamed at in Russian both by the deli person and the lady who just stepped up in front of me. I think everyone was pretty amused but I just had enough and left without trying again. Too bad too since the food did look good and smelled delicious.
Does anyone have any advice on how to shop there (not that I'm in that much of a hurry to go back)?
Thank you
