Shoebox Recipes & Memories

Years ago when I went to visit my German relatives, they would always greet us with a shoebox filled with wonderful treats. Spicy smelling cookies, a little tin of Koch Kasse cheese, always a ring of homemade dried sausage & maybe a little jar of sweet/hot pickles. There never was any fruit cake, just some chewy fruit bars that got better over time. Each family we would visit would give us another shoebox of different treats. Of course we brought back the same boxes filled with treats from our house. There was a joke about one shoe box....it was a very large size & everyone would laugh & say " we know who's shoe box that is". All the old folks are gone & so are the shoeboxes, along with the little recipe cards that were sometimes tucked in with the goodies.

Perhaps some of you might still have some of these recipes that were passed around from one family to another, if so, please share the recipe along with your special memory. Maybe you aren"t German, but your family had its own traditions & recipes too. Let us share these before they are gone forever.
