In the mid-'80s I was an avid consumer of the steamed vegetable dumplings served at Little Shanghai, a restaurant in the eastern wing of Chinatown. I went searching for Little Shanghai recently (after years away from the city), but it seems the place is no more. If the restaurant has relocated, or if I'm not remembering correctly where it is, can someone point me in the right direction? In lieu of that, I'd welcome any recommendations for superior steamed vegetable dupplings served elsewhere. The ones that live in my memory are not only delicious but beautiful, with tiny cubes of brilliantly white tofu nestled among greens and carrots, their colors brightened and deepened by the steam. I haven't eaten them in 15 years, but they linger on my tongue like it was yesterday.
