Shake Shack and Retro Burgers

opinionatedchef | Jan 25, 201410:30 PM

We were picking up some Wagamama laksa tonight in Harv Sq. and noticed that there was NO line at Shake Shack(6pm), so tried a few things take away. My own reaction after this 1 visit: good juicy burger but beef not distinctive, bun too small and characterless, shake sauce fine but wimpy; i'll keep to ketchup and mustard. Newly added fresh cut fries are excellent, cooked as you request. If we go again, it will be for the Mushroom Stack- a cheeseburgr w/ a cheese stuffed fried portobello on top. Bun still too small but that portobello adds alot to this burger.

After Swankalicious posted a few months ago about the new Retro Burger in Arlington, i checked it out and noticed v good looking (web) onion rings. On our way back from Harv Sq., we picked some up to go w/ our ShSh burgers. EXCellent onion rings. Dipped in buttermilk and then flour mixture. Crunchy, not over seasoned.Much harder to find good onion rings than good fr fries; Thx Swank!
