SF's Melt!

Melanie Wong | Jun 1, 200504:32 AM

After visiting my optometrist, I grabbed a quick lunch around the corner. Melt! offers panini, foccacia sandwiches, salads, soups, fondues, and espresso drinks. Every single food item except the soup has cheese in it. Across the street from Graffeo (and featured on the coffee menu here), the aroma of roasting beans is an added attraction.

I picked one of the two "open sandwiches", a tuna melt. Two slices of crusty Italian bread were layered thickly with simple tuna salad, topped with swiss cheese and then popped in the toaster oven to melt the cheese to oozing. Good quality albacore in the tuna salad could have used a little more salt, but I appreciated the spare hand with mayo and the simplicity of the minced red onion seasoning. The organic greens were drizzled with balsamico and olive oil, then I added salt adn pepper at the table. Good value and a nice lunch for $6.
