SF Visitor's Tip Sheet

Stanley Stephan | Feb 18, 200309:01 PM

Ok, it seems the summer season is coming up and we are gettting a few requests on the board by tour...uh, visitors. And they are getting more or less ignored.

So, my next post is the proposed tip sheet. I am tired of it right now and don't see myself searching the boards anymore, so I'm hoping we can all pull together and get this worked out.

If someone wants to tackle Wine Country or the East Bay, go for it. This was pretty exhausting as it was.

It is NOT complete or even GOOD. It is a quick try.

I didn't include outlaying places so a good Italian restaurant like Acquerello gets ignored because it is out of tourist radar and quite a little ride to get to for an out of towner. On the other hand, I'm inconsistant. I put La Table on there which I should probably take off for the same reason, same area.

Some of my neighborhoods may be off. I didn't edit the links yet (hey, this is free folks, I don't want any attitude about it being wrong other than telling me what needs to be corrected).

Here's my suggestion -

First, does this format work for everyone?

Second, what's the best way to get a good version of this. My suggestion would be for me to take e-mails with ideas for suggestions, additions, deletions. Then, based on your input, I'll put the next version out say this weekend and then it is open to comment on the board.

Some categories I'm just not good at, Asian, Indian.
Some stuff hasn't been discussed for a while like of all things Vietnamese.

I am overwhelmed by Mexican and Chinese, so I just threw a few places on there. Help me.

For listed restaurants, let me know if they fill any of the categories like, child-friendly or great view.

And, to be selfish, you might want some of these off the list because you don't want them over run. Let me know.

I don't know the best way to say it, but for some neighborhoods, vistors need to be clued in on. My hair always stands on end when places near 16th and Mission get mentioned. You don't want vistors strolling around with the fanny packs and cameras around their neck. I used the word edgy, I didn't mean to insult your neighborhood.

Also, I tended to mention restaurants that get mentioned over and over which seemed to have a consensus by most hounds that it was worthwhile. If it got mentioned once, it probably didn't make it. Especially if it was a one-time poster.

If you know the link to a particularily good restaurant posting, like Melanie's ode to Tadich grill, or a good general discussion about a cuisine, please let me know the link to find it.

Be kind. I don't want the nonsense that took place on the Chicago board. Thumbs up or thumbs down. Either is fine with me.

In one way, if no one likes it, it was a good exercise for me to get a consise list started for myself in one place.

The next link will have the actual tip sheet. If the Chowhound team hates this, feel free to delete.
