SF Hound coming to LA

Picnic Organizing Committee Head and chowingwiththehounds Webmaster Plan Escape from San Francisco!!

Yes, Michael & I are quite excited to escaping our chores and heading south for a week (Aug 18-23). Alas, I will be attending a conference at the Century Plaza Hotel ("Westside" says the website) and he will be lounging by the pool all day at The Figueroa Hotel. Michael's joining me on this trip 'cause he got laid off so we're rediscovering the beauty of bargain dining and are particularly interested in cheap eats recommendations.

Usually when we come to LA, we stay with friends and they drive us about so we don't know a lot about LA geography. Also, we tend to eat in people's homes or their favorite restaurants. Places we went out to on our last trip south - Cinnabar, shabu shabu in Little Tokyo, Pink's, Central Market for pupusas, Original Pantry, some Mexican place in Koreatown, some Mexican place that I could never find again and In 'n Out for hangover relief.

Are there any tasty lunch places around the Century Plaza Hotel that you can recommend? (I'm up for any recs but would normally eat somewhat light so I don't pass out in a food coma during the afternoon meetings.)

Dinner recommendations for the Figueroa Hotel area? (particularly for a solo diner since one night I'll be at a opening night reception at the Getty and another night at a committee dinner so Michael will be on his own.)

I've been reading through the board, its just hard for me to tell where stuff is relative to where I'll be. But so far my list has Guelaguetza & Langers on it.
