Served frozen wakame??

LizR | Jan 9, 2004 11:16 AM

Last night we tried MF sushi bar in Atlanta. It has been getting rave reviews for a while, and with the demise of Soto we were desperate for some really good stuff.

It was very lound, crowded and trendy. Still, without reservations we lucked out with seats at the bar. The quality of the fish was very good, best uni and otoro we've ever had (although the otoro sashimi was an astonishing $18 for 4 small pieces).

Service was very slow and our waitress seemed quite harried. Which brings me to the real point of this post...when my wakame salad arrived it had a LOT of ice crystals in it and it was clearly still partially frozen. I have never encountered this before, has anyone else? I've had a fair share of wakame salad, and even purchased frozen wakame and made my own salad at home, but never seen or heard of it being served frozen. When I called the waitress over and indicated that it was still frozen, she told me that it was supposed to be that way and that I'd just have to wait a bit for it to thaw! I think they were in the weeds - pun intended- and just pulled a batch out of the freezer with no time for it to defrost. Am I wrong?

Total bill for three people was over $200 including drinks. Our chef was very plesant and he did give us a complimentary serving of chutoro.
