seeking pickled garlic recipe

Flushing, NY, has become the home of lots of Oriental (and Indian) restaurants, shops, and people. If you live in or near the NYC area and have not spent time in Flushing, by all means, do so, since it's a fascinating place.

There;s a large Korean supermarket there that has a salad bar, and one of the items is pickled garlic cloves. These cloves have NO soy sauce in them. They seem to be pickled in sugar and some kind of vinegar, and they're nice and crunchy but without that raw garlic "sting", and I'm looking for a recipe. Does anyone have one?

NOTE: There are lots of recipes for pickled garlic that have you just drop the cloves into a solution containing vinegar, sugar, and other spices. One problem with this is that if you do this, the garlic cloves all turn blue at the base! Try it and see for yourself. I'd like to figure out how to make these pickled garlic cloves myself.

Anyone have a recipe they've actually used? Or that they recommend highly? Tnx.
