Seeking coffeehouses to study ... please help.

sc | Jul 28, 200411:27 AM

I’m looking for coffeehouses or cafes that I can work for a couple of hours at a time. I have searched far and wide, and the task seemed hopeless around my neck of the woods. That’s why I’m finally posting for help. I’m a graduate student at USC and am desperately in need of a place to read papers and write. Unfortunately, I live in the San Gabriel Valley area and coffee shops, with the exception of Starbucks, seem like a rarity. I am looking for a place close to me or within 20 min drive, hopefully. Or maybe even some place around USC. The only coffeehouse that I know of similar to what I’m looking for is Beantown in Sierra Medra, which is a bit far to drive on a regular basis.

I moved to LA from Boston for over a year now and have been searching since. Back in Boston, I really liked places such as Trident on Newbury St. or “1369” in Central Square in Cambridge. I’m looking for something like that; just a comfortable environment for a cup of latte. No starbucks, please! Thanks.
