I'm convinced this city still has some hidden gems sitting right under our noses that go under-appreciated until they're about to close.
I've often mentioned that there was a period when two Ray's pizzas used to take top prizes for the pizza category in all the "best of" lists. That proves that as much as New York loves nostalgia we also are really good at neglecting some of out best finds. So I'm not talking about Katz's or Gray's Papaya here.
With the invention of blogs, and message boards, there's a lot more insider tips being traded, so there aren't all that many secrets, but I still feel like it's easy for the classic only in New York places to get overshadowed by some of the hyped up places, and a lot of beloved favorite businesses are still closing up these days
... so I'm wondering, what are some of your favorite hidden gems, and secret food finds in New York? I'll try to think of some too.
