I have a strange request/ question. There have been 3 restaurants in my area in the past 20 years that have had a pinker than usual version of 1000 island dressing. It is slightly sweeter than normal as well and in all three cases, it has been described as a secret house recipe. My mother (and all of my family) LOVE this stuff. The restaurants that have had this are Nevada- near Chicago, Frankfort Village Restaurant- now closed, and Olympic Star- in Tinley and still open. All three restaurants are - maybe coincidentally- Greek owned. One server said that 'Beets' was a key ingredient, but I have tried so many versions and it just seems like beets is not a flavor in it, but I can be wrong. Anyone have a line on this??
