Seawall Drive-In - Not your average snack bar

While visiting my in-laws a couple weeks ago, we went to Seawall Drive-In in Southwest Harbor, ME. This drive in has been there for many years but ownership changed a couple years ago. With new management, the menu has been updated with more modern and Southwestern influenced items. They serve the expected hamburgers and hot dogs but here the ground beef comes from Maine raised cows. They serve lobster, crab and shrimp salad rolls. The owner told us that he sources locally as much as possible. They make their own ice-cream, gelato and sorbet on premise with both classic flavors and more exotic ones (think bacon maple, cloven ginger with Mexican vanilla, blood orange gelato). I had the Shee crab soup which was more of a very thick chowder (see pics). This was nice and spicy without obscuring the crab flavor. Very satisfying. My wife and mother-in-law had the pesto chicken cobb salad - a cobb salad with a pesto vinaigrette. We didn't try any of their specialty drinks this time around but I was very tempted by the Blueberry lemonade and minted earl grey lemonade. For dessert, they were out of the Seawall bar and chocolate chip brownie ice cream sandwich so we had to settle for their fabulous ice cream - cloven ginger in mexican vanilla and caramel pecan. Being a drive-in "snack bar" seating is limited to a couple chairs and picnic tables or your car. It's a fabulous place to stop for lunch on the way to Seawall, the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, or Southwest Harbor.
