Never mind that most places in San Diego are getting ready for summer. I've been addicted to Chuao spicy maya hot chocolate for a year and have recently discovered the dark (melted chocolate) hot chocolate at Chi Chocolate and absolutely love it... it's rich, pure chocolate heaven. I had been wondering about Godiva's drink (chocolixir?) and finally tried it today. Much to my disappointment, it was reminiscent of an intense Nestle or Swiss Miss hot cocoa mix, just slightly less sugary. Stupid chains! I'm not sure whether or not they use a mix, but it tasted like it was. I also had the hot chocolate at Tartine in Coronado a few months ago and was served a steamed whole milk drink instead. Veeery sad. Just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere else that I should try. Is Extraordinary Desserts or Michele Coulon's hot chocolate any good? The Bay Area & LA boards have tons of info about SF and LA hot chocolate... but I live in SD.

On a side note, I was up in SF and was salivating just reading about all the hot chocolate places up in the Bay Area. I narrowed it down to 2 places in SF, Cafe Madeleine and Tartine, googled directions to the former, got LOST for an hour, finally found Cafe Madeleine as well as parking in the vicinity... and it was CLOSED for a few weeks!!! I wanted to cry. Perhaps next time...
