Why am I getting a much better sear in my stainless steel vs. my cast iron pan?

I always thought cast iron was supposed to be the king of sears but I find I get a much better crust in my stainless steel pan. In fact it's significantly different. This is even when I let my CI warm up for a good 10 minutes. What gives?
