I thought I would post a separate review of this place for Oceanlover and others looking for a great seafood place in Cambria. First of all, in another thread someone was asking about the Black Cat. I haven't been there yet (soon, tho!) but did check on Tripadvisor and the are #1. (Receiving perfect scores from all reviews.) The Sow's Ear Cafe is listed as #2 and the Sea Chest #4.
First of all, they don't take credit cards or reservations here. We arrived around 5:00 to wait outside the door to be the first ones in. A big line starts forming around 5:15 and it's kind of traditional that someone will bring a nice bottle of wine to share with others while you wait to get in. A very friendly couple from down south brought a nice bottle of wine that he shared with other diners waiting to get inside.
Since we were first in line, we chose a table with an oceanview in the section where there is an open kitchen. The restaurant is a Nautical funk type place in decor. Very casual, but nice.
The main attraction here is the seafood. I had the salmon which was amazing. Probably the best since a couple of places we went to in the Pacific Northwest. Prepared perfectly, served with sides of sliced fried potatoes and steamed veggies. The salad and bread were also very good.
For dessert, we shared the lemon tart that was drizzled with raspberry sauce and little dots of the sauce decorated the plate. Excellent! Next time I want to try the calamari which I've heard wonderful things about. The Sea Chest is only open for dinner, not lunch. Cheers! ***kim***
