A couple Saturdays ago I finally had a chance to check out Scoop of Sonoma in Forestville. It opened last fall. The ice creams here blew me away, I'd been missing out on something very special. The Belgian owner is using his grandmother's recipe and the very best ingredients, such as local duck yolks and organic Jersey milk from St. Benoit, to make an extraordinarily rich style of ice cream/frozen custard. The texture is extremely dense and the flavors are concentrated and direct, making for an outrageously excellent ice cream. Truly revelatory.

This cone is Triple Berry and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. The scoops are generous and fill the entire cone. I also tasted Meyer lemon, Black cherry, Vermont maple walnut, Belgian chocolate with peanut butter cups, and Chocolate marmalade. For now, it's open on weekends only till the weather warms up. The owner said he'll be adding tables for inside seating and will offer European style ice cream coupes. I put in a request for spaghetti eis. Can't wait.
