Astro Coffee Shop on NW corner 55th and 6th. A first rank Greek coffee shop, the kind of place where the second day you get a nice smile and the third day you're a regular. Highly recommended. Especially the home fries, country sausage, pancakes, Greek yogurt, heck--just a great breakfast all around.

Moonrock, 57th betw 7th & 8th. Practically inedible breakfast, especially after Astro. nuff said.

Plenty has been written about board recommendations for Grand Sichuan 9th Ave, Poseidon Bakery, Azuri Cafe, Cassoulet at LCB Brasserie, Kee's Chocolates, Di Paulo Cheese Shop, Lupa, dessert/cheese course at Picholine (special thanks, Nina W!)--Major all around thanks.

Lox at Russ Daughters vs Barney Greengrass. We love Barney Greengrass, and to prove it we walked 30 blocks through Sunday's driving snow to get there. But a few days later we got to Russ Daughters, and found that Russ' lox was even better. Of course, Russ has no seats.

Trip surprise: Yonah Schimmel's. Last time I had a knish from Yonah Schimmel's was about ten years ago and it was inedible and after one bite hit the garbage. This time we passed by around lunch. Kasha and potato knishes were exc. Go figure. Best guess: go when its busy, otherwise pass by.
