Savera is the new Indian place on St. Clair W. where D Ganz steak house used to be (near Winona). We finally tried it last week for takeout and I must say we were pleasantly surprised. We tried the chicken tikka masala, pakoras, rice, eggplant, and chana masala. We also had naan which was excellent. All of the items had lots of flavour and fresh ingredients. What I liked best about it was the fact that everything wasn't swimming in cream -- I find a lot of Indian cooking these days uses far too much cream and it overpowers. This was quite different and very good, especially the tikka masala which had a wonderful sweet tomato taste to it. We are looking forward to trying it again. It's definitely family run -- kids are out front and Mum and Dad appear to be cooking in back (that was my guess anyway). Like the early days of Sher E Punjab.
Anyone else tried it? If so, what did you have and what did you think?
