Went to West for lunch on Saturday. Found the room to be less spectacular in the daylight but still very attractive. Service was more casual then at night but still first rate.
The menu is less awe inspiring but still interesting. The food however was what I expected. Very, very, good. My two sons and I could not resist the Wagyu Burger with Yukon Gold fries. The actual meat was very juicy and tasty. It was lightly seared and still pink inside, and was served on a bun with a relish and grilled onions. Mrs. Coop had the Pasta Pescatore, now this dish was exceptional (who would have geussed),the linguine was perfectly al dente and obviously made on site, the mussels, clams and fish were tender and fat, and the tomato sauce was rich and spicy.
My wife and I shared a bottle of Bonny Doon Vin de Gris at $34 a great buy. It was fresh and lively with a mineral and fruit nose. Well worth the trip.
My sons who are 13 and 16 both enjoyed the hour and a half we spent at West. They were later rewarded with gelato from that palce on Venables with 198 flavours. However they drew the line at lingere shopping with mom. Thank God.
