Santa Fe - Coyote Cafe Report

Despite a couple of reports from friends that they didn't enjoy the Coyote Cafe, we took a chance and celebrated a milestone birthday there last night. We are long time Coyote Cafe fans but hadn't been in about a year and though we knew Mark Miller was back at the helm, we were not feeling completely confident.

Well, we shouldn't have been. The food was excellent. We started with stuffed squash blossoms, guacamole and heirloom tomato salads with pesto. All dishes were very delicious and though simple, had the "Coyote" touch of big flavors and wonderful textures. The breads served were also delicious, especially the orange fennel ginger muffins. Big mmmmmm.

For entrees, we enjoyed a nut encrusted halibut on some kind of dolled-up mashed vegetable (potatoes I think but can't remember thanks to that second bottle of sparkling wine) with a seafood mole. This was my dish and it was done to perfection. The variety of textures and the play of the spicy mole on the mild fish and mashed veggies was superb. Others in the party enjoyed the lamb with chipotle glaze, and pork tenderloin. All were extremely pleased with the meal. We had a terrific meal and will go back a lot sooner.
