Hmmm ... conflicting food vibes. Doing a search on the web, this place almost seems like a SF Institution.
And yet in an area crawling with Chowhounds no mention ... are there more Chowhounds in this area or drug dealers.
So is it lousy ... mediocre? If not, what is good there?
Stumbled across this review that said they have their own made to order French rolls and they buy prime meat from well-know vendors.
Someone else mentioned on the web that the pastrami was good. Also they have a good vegetarian selection. The soup is house-made and on the link to menu pages, gumbo was on the menu that day ($3 small).
It doesn't look classic, but they do have chicken parm.
So I'm thinking, maybe they are out of business, so I call just to see and ask what time they close.
"We close at 2 pm today, Sweetie", I was told.
That's enough to make me check it out. Should I?
