As you all know, the San Gabriel Valley has the best Chinese food in the United States. Due to the intense competition it also has the most economical Chinese food of any quality in the US except for the poorer parts of Manhattan Chinatown. But with all of the outstanding Chinese food values in the San Gabriel Valley, I think that the best value may well be Szechuan Hot Pot & BBQ, which is across the hall from Empress Harbor on Atlantic and Garvey in Monterey Park. Szechuan Hot Pot has an all you can eat lunch hot pot for $6.99. It's $5.99 during happy hour and still only $9.99 at dinner. Yeah, the sea bass is mostly fat and bone, and it's cash only, and drinks are $1.50. But at a little more than a third of the cost of comparable AYCE hot pots, this is a good deal. The broth is decent and once you start boiling your fish balls or swai, they all taste pretty similar. I particularly liked their bean noodles which come in wide squares, and left the place full and satisfied. The only thing I wonder about is the business model Maybe EB-5?
