San Gabriel Lollicup Secedes and Reopens As Palace Garden Cafe, The 13th Chinese Restaurant At That Location

So the answer to the question of what location in the Los Angeles area has seen the greatest number of Chinese restaurants open and shutter is probably the front store in the mall at 301 W. Valley Blvd., in San Gabriel. (Same shopping center as Mei Long Village, Dragon Mark, J&J.)Few diners are aware of this factoid, as this location has been a bastion of stability for almost the last decade as the San Gabriel location of Lollicup, probably the first outpost of that chain in Los Angeles. However, from the time that the center opened in 1990 with the then scandalously named Lotus 1-2-3 Restaurant opening up in space #101, through the next decade there was an average of one new tenant in that space per year. Now as to the new Palace Garden Cafe, be advised that this is merely the old Lollicup with a new name. The sign inside insists that they are no longer Lollicup, but the Taiwanese snack menu is the same and the drink board doesn't look any different either. Consequently, don't come here expecting anything new and exciting.
