Looking for recommendations for dinner for the weekend, not restricted to the old town area. Traditional Austrian or whatever should not be missed.
Also- last time we were here we stayed at the Schone Aussicht and they were so very friendly and accomodating that we made sure to eat in their restaurant. No set menu, the chef approached and asked what he could make for us. We started with a board with an amazing smokey, fatty speck and something like obazda, and sekt from a valley nearby. Then roastbeef sliced paper thin and the first white asparagus of the season. Then, for me, weiner schnitzel, salzkartoffln, a tart preiselbeeren relish and salad- very traditional and perfectly made. For him- tafelspitz- fresh horseradish, creamed spinach, greenbeans. Each course accompanied by an appropriate riesling. For dessert, Kaiserschmarren and some other chocolately thing. Then schnapps, apricot for him, then some kind of poisonous forest berry for me- very herbaceous with the thrilling tang of imminent death.
Everything was fresh and local, the staff was extremely knowledgable about the sourcing, and also quite proud of the work they were doing. A really wonderful experience. Also, I forgot to mention that the hotel, a converted farmhouse on top of the Heuberg, has an amazing view of the city below. Very romantic.
