After months of reading about this sushi place in a seedy minimall at the NE corner of Sunset and Fountain in Silver Lake, I tried it. A revelation: octopus that is exquisitely silky and at the same time crunchy; mackerel that is not the least bit fishy but has a satisfying meaty fish character; a fascinating toro that I can best describe as having the sublime qualities of butter without the oiliness. The urchin was just ok to me, but a Japanese friend said it was better than anything she had ever had in Japan (though she may have been carried away with the unexpected simple elegance of the offerings).
Less successful is the wild salmon - great texture but no flavor at all; salmon roe is fine but nothing special; pickled tomato roll that is worth skipping; indifferent tea.
This is a gem of a place that lives up to the raves of previous posters. And we had the equivalent of an omakase menu for $33 apiece.
