RW at Taranta

Had another great RW dinner at Taranta. This year the choices were:

Insalata di Misto Verde - a nice fresh greens salad with a simple lemony vinaigrette

Roasted mussels - very good. Two of the four at our table ordered this. Plump mussels in a delicious broth with pancetta, roasted shallots, and marsala.

I got the Pancha chili tamale which I loved, It was moist and flavorful, filled with braised pork and drizzled with a spicy sauce. I'm pretty sure this was mentioned on a Chowhound post as a stand-out at the Taranta table at one of those "best of" or "taste of" food events.

For entrees, two of us ordered the Cassava root gnocchi (a regular dish on the menu) with braised lamb ragu, and two ordered the simple but tasty homemade fusilli with tomato and mozarella. Other choices were a pan roasted chicken with plums, and a macadamia crusted chicken with blood-orange sauce.

For dessert, a creamy limoncello sorbet, and a three layer hazelnut mousse torte. The other couple had never been to the restaurant before, so they were very happy with their meal. I've always liked Taranta. The place was full (but a little warm upstairs)on a Tuesday night. And we had EXCELLENT service -- I know people complain about this sometimes during RW -- with the wonderful and knowledgeable Kimberly (who also recommended a great Viognier).
