RW report from DC Coast -- yummm

Looloo | Jul 30, 2004 01:10 PM

2:10 yesterday (Thursday) and DC Coast was packed, buzzing. I didn't reserve but I grabbed a seat at the bar. I gather when it's not RW, the place is pretty quiet by 2:10.

Unlike many RW places that limit you to only 2 entrees, DC Coast opens the entire lunch menu to you, with NO extra fees for upgrades. Entrees normally run $15-18. You are limited however in the appetizers (2 salads [Caesar or mixed greens] & 2 soups [1 was clam chowder]) & the desserts (3, incl. chocolate souffle cake & creme brule).

I had mixed greens salad, grilled ribeye steak (with collard greens & baby potatoes on the side) and the chocolate cake. All were lovely, delicious and I cleaned my plate each time. My only quibble is the chocolate cake was quite small (smaller than a muffin).

Service was fine - I sat at the bar so it's hard to mess up service for 1 person there. The bartender - very busy during RW - took my order, but staffers from the open kitchen brought me my dishes.

I normally can't afford this place due to my modest gov't salary, so I felt I got a good value with RW. And it's a very pretty setting.

Previous RW experiences have included Taberna del and Tosca (with very limited choices), and Ten Penh (all entrees available). I prefer the open menu option and in the future, will steer towards such places at RW. I believe Corduroy is one?

So thumbs up for RW at DC Coast!
