Recently the Rosa-Rosa Italian restaurant opended in Lancaster in an old industrial building that has been retro fitted in the expanding area near the new ball park. They have run a very nice pizza place for years now and I was very anxious and hopeful that real Italian food may have arrived in Lancaster. We went for diner Saturday night and my hopes were dashed.
The room is very nice, but loud. The service left much to be desired. It what seems to be a trend the desk was staffed by two young women who were attractive but not much else. After some confusion we were seated. We ordered drinks which took a long time to arrive. Our server, another attractive young woman, told us there was "trouble" at the bar.
I ordered the antipasto as a shared appetizer and its arrival foretold trouble. Some meat and cheese of supermarket deli quality and olives that clearly were jarred and roasted peppers that came from a jar.
Entrees arrived and found everyone at the table reaching for the salt. Everything was underseasoned and without the flavor Italian food should bring. I had shrimp with fresh pasta and tomatoes. The pasta triangles stuck together and I had to pry them apart. The shrimp rubbery and the tomatoes were cherry. Nothing like I had hoped for.
Our young server was working very hard but she had no bus help, no one to bring water and the bar did seem a mess. She was under supported by staff and I only once observed some guy who may have been managment. No mention of the wine program except for a little table tent that did not list what was available by the glass.
The place was packed and it may become big in Lancaster, however not with me. Not at the prices they charge. Perhaps my hope that Lancaster may finally get a real Italian place made my expectations too high. I wish them well but I will have to be talked into going back
