With the help of CH'rs we had one great meal after another. Nothing fancy but great authentic cuisine all around:
La Matricianella - I'm a nose to tail guy when I have the chance and it doesn't get better than this. On ElizBeth's reco tried the mixed fritters. Splendido. On to the best sweetbreads I've ever had. Partner had a terrific veal chop. Sides, vino and dessert all good with fun atmosphere and friendly owners. Ate they the original family or taken over. Either way a perfect first evening.
La Gensola - lunch. Really humming charming place. Was craving vongole which was good but probably should have gone with the specials Irene was serving up, but Google translate wasn't telling me what I eventually saw. Nevertheless a great spot wit lots of local business folk.
Gatta Mangiona- Holy Toledo now that's a pizza! Had a special with artichokes and greens. Partner went with Bianca and prosciutto. Really lively, fun with attentive helpful wait staff. TY Elizabeth once again for that reco.
Nerone Lunch. What in the world is all the sturm und drung about this lovely cafe in another thread? This is an ideal spot after doing the ancient area. Veggie antipasti perfect with a side of spinach we couldn't resist and a nicely prepared chicken piccata with roasted potato. Loved watching Ma and Papa; she rushing in and out of kitchen and he schmoozing with patron buds. Young owner/manager very attentive to us and bought us dessert. Just a nice guy. As we were leaving he asked how we found out about them and, mbfant, I credited you. He seemed very pleased. So we're we!
Perilli- mixed antipasti artichoke, fave and ramps Deelish. And the rep on carbonara totally deserved. I've never eaten anything like it and I'll buy someone dinner if they can reco anyplace in the States that does carbonara like that! Also amatriciana and veal chop and roast lamb as secondi. Families, young couples, frantic yet attentive wait staff. All good.
Brava Roma and grazie CH'rs for a perfect series of meals. Now off to the Israel board to fill those folks in on tel aviv and Jerusalem. Ciao for now
