Hi! My boyfriend and I are traveling to Italy/Croatia these next few weeks and are flying in and out of Rome. Though I have been to Rome once it was a long time ago and I definitely prioritized sightseeing over eating. On this trip, though we have little time, I would love to learn more about the city through its food. I love getting to know cities through food/restaurants and because of that I've become a diligent/obsessive researcher prior to trips (part of this I think is just my way of learning about the place and its people/history... I just like to do that via food). For Rome, I've read various blogs and articles, most specifically Maureen Fant and Katie Parla's pages (both excellent and super helpful!) but I'm weary of over planning, especially because my boyfriend doesn't like to plan as much as I do, so wanted to reach out to see what general thoughts were for the following itinerary! We're very easygoing and in our late 20's. We appreciate history/character and are looking for good food/drink/atmosphere that would bring us a little closer to Rome. I know its impossible to get a good idea of the city in so little time but would love to hear recommendations suggestions for maximizing our time food-wise!
One specific question: Piperno is unfortunately closed during our stay due to the holiday. Could anyone recommend something thats as classic/seated in history with a lovely setting? We're foodies but also love a place with history, which is why we were particularly looking forward to Piperno! Also the summer outdoor seating sounded magical.
Places we are thinking about:
ARMANDO AL PANTHEON
FLAVIO AL VELAVEVODETTO
Generally, any open air "magical" places.
