My husband and I are from NYC and will be in Italy this may and need a few recommendations. This isn't our first trip to Italy but it will be our first time in Milan and the Amalfi Coast so recommendations for those to places in particular would be great. We are lovers of restaurants that are unpretentious but innovative with fine ingredients. Restaurants of all budgets welcome.
Have just started doing some research on previous boards but wanted to see if there was anything new we might be missing. I would definitely like to go to Roscioli in Rome- casual, quaint, easy and good food from what I hear. Last time we were in Rome we ate at Il Convivio which was fine but I would not visit again- too formal and stuffy the food was not the best we enjoyed on the trip. My mother loved it. We missed our second night's reservation at Piperno for Roman Jewish food and went to Gusto instead because it was near the hotel-- worth making another reservation at Piperno or no??
Last time we were in Florence we ate at Trattoria Cibreo and La Giostra. Cibreo was great and La Giostra was old fashioned but fun even if it was filled with tourists (all of florence on a weekend i think!) Is Sostanza as good as so many people on the boards claim it is?
I have Zero research on Amalfi or Milan. Read a lot about Cracco but am hesitant to make the reservations. Milan seems to be coming up with a good amount of "farm to table" restaurants- any recommendations?
