Last night I had a wonderful evening at Rohan, the soju bar on Geary at 3rd Ave. Soju is traditional Korean spirits, usually made from barley, rice, sweet potato, or all three. To go with a couple of shots I had their very tasty, crispy, savory bul-go-gi (diced and spiced pork bits, served with red lettuce for wrapping). The meat was so tasty I didn't need the slices of raw garlic and jalapenos that come with.
I sat at the bar and got a good education in soju from bartender Roland, who's very friendly and easy going. They also have Torikai, a top-end Japanese "sho-chu" (same thing, but with Japanese pronunciation) and a Nigori-zake (cloudy sake) made in Berkeley.I can't wait to go back to this place, next time with a small group of people.
