I have read some opinions about Roe on this newsgroup.
I was looking for a place to hold a dear friends 40th dinner this Thursday. We already booked Roe's for 16 people. I know some of the reviews on this board were very good and some were quite bad. We decided to be optimistic and hope the experience would be good, especially as it is for a special occasion. She particularly wanted a place that would serve some sushi stuff, but also cater for people for people who dont like sushi. We thought Roe might live up to the experience of it being a bit special and with the bar and DJ, have a bit more of a party atmosphere.
Now - I know we can't trust the chronicle but i just read their review today of Roe and now I have more doubts than i did before. The prices do sound a little crazy, so I want to be sure it is worth it.
I feel that if we swap to somewhere else at this late stage it will be hard to find anywhere else that fits our criteria:
16 people, 8.30pm dining, sushi definitely on menu but not exclusively, more fusion style, small plates avcailable, preferably with a bar and a little bit cool atmosphere.
Several people in this group have done both Chaya and Ozumo recently so we'd prefer something different to those to. short notice.
Does anyone think Roy's might be better? Tha was another of my friend's suggestions but she thought it might be a little touristy and still as expensive or moreso than Roe.
Do you think it would be cheeky to phone up Roe and mention we have read some less than good reviews, and ask if they are sure they are up to giving us a good time? Do you think that might help ensure the experience will be good?
