I've never particularly felt the need for a roasting pan. My mom still hosts Thanksgiving, so I've roasted a turkey exactly zero times in my life. When I'm roasting meat, I usually just put a wire rack on a rimmed baking sheet.
This weekend was the first time I actually "needed" a real roasting pan. I was making a prime rib dinner and rather than using my traditional baking sheet method, I needed something with room for oxtails, vegetables, and liquid to rest under the roasting rack for my au jus. I borrowed my mom's, but it got me thinking maybe it's time I finally invest in one of my own.
I've considered a smaller one (14"), but thought it might be worth it to go big (16") should I need it further down the line...like when the turkey roasting torch gets passed on to me.
Any recommendations? I know ATK recommends the Cuisinart Contemporary Roaster, but I also know I can get far better advice here than on ATK. I want something sturdy so that if I ever need to use it to make gravy on the stove top I can do that. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but don't need anything cheap either.
