RK Restaurant - Rye NY (Long)

The surroundings of RK are wonderful to the eye and the food is not far behind. The restaurant itself is bright, airy and there is a perpetual “quote screen” rolling along one wall that can prompt some interesting conversations at the table. By 8PM on a Friday night this place is bustling with attractive 30’s to well-heeled 50’s. The bar area is beautiful with 8 seats and a wide selection on top shelf choices. Appetizers ($12-22) range from salads to foie gras. We ordered the tuna tartare and luna rosa salad. The tartare was exceptional, bright, and flavorful with a deep color. My wife ordered the luna rosa but asked for vinaigrette instead of the blue cheese. Her salad came over laden with dressing and when asked for a replacement wit dressing on side this was easily addressed. We both ordered (recommended by waiter) the crispy red snapper with shitakes, bok choy and a soy ginger sauce. A little disappointing, the fish had very little flavor, bok choy nothing special and two small shitake caps. A yawner of a dish and was not up to those we have eaten at this restaurant in the past. Dessert brought the highlight. I have a nut allergy so apple pie was out so my second, and only other choice, was a chocolate mousse with pot au crème. The pastry chef removed the hazelnut crust and this was the highlight of the meal. Full of flavor and perfectly complimented by the pot au crème. Service reminded me of friends of my college daughter, very friendly but a little goofy. He made the experience very relaxing so I enjoyed the low-keyed approach, others may find this a little too casual, so casual he forgot to bring my wife’s tea until after we finished the dessert. Bill came to $100 for 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, 1 tea and a bottle of Fiji water. Well worth it. Enjoy
