ristorante raphael - review

Jeanne | Dec 22, 2003 10:08 PM

dinner at ristorante raphael with my roommate tonight. we'd heard some good things. not being very hungry, we skipped the antipasti and ordered a pizza margherita and the fusilli alla vodka to share.
the restaurant was fairly empty probably due to the fact that it was monday and also quite early (6:30 pm).
1. breadsticks with a tomato garlic olive oil parmesan dipping sauce. crunchier breadsticks than i prefer.
2. pizza margherita - we expected slices of tomato and fresh basil but found very soupy tomato sauce and a single leaf of basil. the crust was good, light, slightly chewy, with crisp edges.
3. fusilli alla vodka - nice light cream sauce with al dente pasta. i really liked the bits of smoked salmon tossed with the pasta.
it was pleasant. the only slightly sour note was at the end of the meal when we asked for our leftovers to be boxed and then were ignored for quite a while by our waiter *who was just standing next to the hostess station (our table was just a couple of steps away)*. he didn't offer dessert or coffee and finally brought the check.
~$30 for two entrees, tax, & tip.
nothing took our breath away. next time we're going to try the santa fe bistro. ;D
