Rhubarb and whole Strawberry a la Christine Ferber

Has anyone done this recipe from Mes Confitures using her method without taking any shortcuts? It takes 3 days (I'm used to her recipes taking at least a day or more) It requires a boiling and cooling session that may take 40 hours (active time about 1hour total) to complete. Wow!

My question concerns this portion of the method:

"The third day bring this mixture to a boil 5 times." (the whole macerated strawberries and reduced syrup)

So what that means to me is to simply watch the saucepan until it boils then turn off. As soon as the bubbles go away then turn it on again and bring to a boil. Do this 5 times without breaks for cooling.

Next is the confusing part:

"Do this (boiling 5x) sequence again 4 more times at 8 hour intervals." Does she mean for us to cool it for 8 hours (after the 1st time) then do the boil again 5x. Cool for 8/boil 5x, cool for 8/boil 5x, cool for 8/boil 5x for a total of 5 boiling sequences and 40 hours?

I'm willing to do it because if you follow her method it gets spectacular results and I love the process as much as the product, but that is a lot of boiling sequences. Anybody try this?
