[RGV] Laredo Jalapeno Festival

Scott | Mar 15, 200509:56 AM     3

Every year on Presidents Day weekend, Laredo hosts a large parade celebrating George Washington's birthday. And, later in the day, comes the annual Jalapeno Festival, with music, food, cooking contests, jalapeno eating contests, jalapeno spitting contests, etc.

I'm not sure where all the people come from. But, on that weekend, Laredo is slammed. Forget about getting a hotel room, if you don't already have a reservation. The festivities spill over into Nuevo Laredo, as well, where streets are shut down, stages set up, and Mexican beer companies try to impress the crowds with race cars, giant inflatable bottles, scantily clad beer girls, etc.

I've posted some pictures of this year's parade and Jalapeno Festival at the link below, for anyone interested. This is one of the cooler, less known food events in Texas, in my book.
