Decided to check out two of the "Best Of's".
1.Lombardi's: Now I heard mixed reviews of this place on here, but had to check it out:
A.)There was no line, since it was only 5pm on
B.)Place is small, but homey which I like and tend
not to find too much of in Manhattan.
C.)Had to wait long for our server, but once order
was placed the food came quick
D.)Ordered the portobello mushroom appetizer which
was delcious and big portioned
E.)For pizza we ordered a large pie half pepporoni
and the other half peppers/onions/mushrooms/xtra
mozarella. The pizza was very watery meaning when
you picked it up, everything is sliding all over
the place and it was impossible to cut with a
fork/knife since it was a little soggy. The tomato
sauce was good, but I wish the cheese could've been
evenly spread out, most of the chesse was only in
the middle. The toppings were only thrown on top
of the pizza after cooking so everything was falling
off. The thing i did like was most of the time when
you get brick oven pizza the crust is barely there
and hard, but Lombardi's crust was nice & doughy.
The price was great so that would make me go back
and hopefully the pie will be less soggy.
2. Next stop was the supposedly best french fry place: Pomme Frites on 2nd Avenue. There was a line out the door, once inside were faced with tons of dipping sauces got the chili sauce & ketchup. Fries were good, but not the greatest and certainly not that great to wait in line for. I've had diner fries that tasted just as good or even better. They should be known for the greatest dipping sauces since they do have a ton of those.
