Review - Mccormick & Schmicks (212 459 1222, 6th @ 52nd)
This used to be the old Angelo & Maxies steakhouse, but has now morphed into this West Coast seafood chain. In summary, it's pretty good with lots of fresh seafood, creatively prepared. Prices are fair for this part of time, and general ambience, but it can be loud.
We started with 3 sides
Crab Dip - which was served with apparently fried pita bread covered in cheese. Pretty much pure fat, but tasty enough. A good value for an appetizer here at $10.
Mussels in a coconut curry broth - these tasted odd to me and also about $10
Calamari with 3 sauces (marmalade, cocktail sauce, and sweet mustard) also $12 or so. This is solid enough and a good sized portion.
After that I had the sole which had a thick parmesan crust and was served with lemon and butter, plus mashed and squash. It was good but was no way at all something lighter. It was very tasty of course.
They allow corkage / BYO for $15 per bottle although the stemware is not so great. I'd come back actually.
