Reuben Hunt -- the Aftermath

Dave Feldman | Jun 3, 200602:22 PM

As promised, here's a report about my brother's Reuben search. I found out a little more about his quest. One of his colleagues was leaving his job nad Reubens are his favorite. I got the idea that he wasn't a Chowhound by any stretch of the imagination.

I think my brother's first choice would have been Langer's, but the four participants couldn't make it before Langer's closed for the day, so based on the board's feedback, they went to Brent's in Northridge.

And they loved it. Here's my brother's report, verbatim:

"We ordered a conventional Reuben, a pastrami Reuben, and a turkey Reuben. The corned beef was fantastic, and we all agreed it was the best we've had -- though two of the party had not had much experience with c.b. Sandwiches were big, a bit dry. The beef was not too salty, flavorful and went down smoothly. The guest of honor declared it the best Rueben he's ever had (so it was a successful trip), though he would have opted for a bit more saurekraut for "moisture."

"Pastrami was good too, and I really enjoyed the turkiey R. Of course, I'm a big fan of turkey and not particularly a fan of sauerkraut, but the combination was tasty. We shared all of the sandwiches.

"The 4th order was a salad. Go figure. It was fine but not in the spirt of the rest of our foodalicious quests."

Thanks, all, for the suggestions.
