Our family of 4 stayed for a week in the condos at the Sanibel Harbour Marriott (near the bridge to Sanibel/Captiva) in Ft. Myers. What follows in my 2 cent analysis of the restaurants in which we ate:
- Charley's Cove (at the hotel) - this was one of those hotel restaurants that doesn't have a ton of food. We ordered apps - you saw a pizza oven when you first walked in and the pizza was surprisingly delicious. Everything else was good, not great (nachos, quesadilla).
- Gramma Dot's (Sanibel) - Beer and wine only. We ordered fried fish and shrimp baskets and a house salad. Food was great and came with homemade potato chips. Wow - those were great. Salad was basic but nice and refreshing - very good house vinaigrette. Restaurant is located in a marina so it's got some nice water views.
Jerry's - This is a small, gourmet-type food market on Sanibel. We had sandwiches and subs made to-go to the beach. They were all very good - Boar's Head meats and homemade tuna salad. The wheat bread was just pre-packaged bread (which would bother some - didn't bother me). There is a small restaurant here, but we didn't eat there. I did take some egg salad and coleslaw to go. Both very good.
La Casita - (in Ft Myers on Iona and McGregor) - Mexican food. Mexican food purists from places close to Mexico will not love it, but we thought it was perfect. The salsa was so good, chips definitely seemed homemade. I got a trio of enchiladadas - yummy. My son got a bean burrito, my husband got carne asada, and my daughter got a chicken/cheese quesadilla. Hubby's steak was thin and came with tortillas - he made tacos. The real star was the app - potato taquitos. They were fantastic!
Heavenly Biscuit (Ft Myers Beach) - This was by far our favorite food experience. They make biscuit sandwiches, grits, potatoes, and cinnamon rolls in a little shack about 2 blocks from the beach. Holy cow! Everything was fantastic. Great biscuits- we all got sandwiches with eggs, meat etc, which seems to be their specialty. The cinnamon roll was one of the best ever and so much icing!
Mucky Duck - Captiva Island. Always one of my favorites and it didn't disappoint. I was disappointed to find out they didn't have burgers any longer at dinner, because their burgers are excellent. For an app, we got Duck Duck Shrimp which was fried shrimp tossed in duck sauce. yum. For dinner, I ordered Crunchy Grouper (crusted in corn flake crumbs) and hubby got steamed shrimp. Both were great! Grouper was crunchy outside and moist inside. We watched the sunset as we ate and had another beer outside when finished eating. Service was very good.
Hope these reviews are helpful for anyone staying in that area.
