My husband and I are visiting Rome for the first time at Thanksgiving, staying at a hotel on Via del Babuino, between the Piazza del Popolo and the Piazza di Spagna.
I've already bought an armload of tourist guides, including the Michelin (which is in Italian, thanks very much), and I've enrolled in a Berlitz Italian course, but what I need is real dining advice from real people.
We'll be in Rome for 5 nights and I figure we'll probably want one Big Splurge dinner, maybe one lunch like that, and keep the rest a bit more modest. Wading through these books isn't helping me at all - I wish there was a Patricia Wells Food-Lovers' Guide to Rome! Her Paris book became my bible when visiting that city and I never made a mistake picking a restaurant based on her recommendations. So could you guys be my Patricia Wells and guide me to some great trattorias and restaurants and cafes?
