Restaurant attitude and the recession

Given the state of the economy, and that there's still a recession, you'd think the upper-eschelon restaurants would be extra savvy about service, yet unfortunately a majority of places still have terrible service and act as if you're doing them a favor by eating some of their quadruple-mark-up appetizers and dinner.

Meanwhile, in the SF Bay Area, Oakland's Uptown has been getting a lot of buzz, with the extraordinary Ozumo and Pican. Check them out; food is great and yes, service is wonderful.
